I am slowly working my way through my book and have approached my first deadline -the introduction. I wanted to have a draft of it completed by September 1st. My goal was to have my introduction be 10,000 words, roughly 20 pages. I finished editing the first draft of my introduction on August 31st with roughly 18 pages written at approximately 6,700 words. Although I am shy of both my initial word and page count goals, I feel I have met my deadline and imagine that when I return to the introduction after the rest of the book is written I will add and change a lot of it.
My next objective is to finish the first draft of chapter one by December 1st. I am currently compiling secondary sources in this section, particularly from Jstor and endnotes from secondary sources I own. I want to write daily or at least on my days off in hopes of either meeting my deadline or not having a ton to write right before then.
Things I Learned…
For about a year I have aspired to be a morning and honestly can say I have failed miserably. Getting up in the morning is incredibly difficult for me, while I can stay up and work on things really late. During August, I attempted to get up 3 hours before I left for work to write and exercise. Each morning I ended up sleeping in with just enough time to get ready and leave. I would then go to bed early in an attempt to get up early again only to sleep in again. Little writing was getting done because I was not writing in the evening thinking I was going to write the next morning. At this point, I have given up the idea that I could be an early bird and have fully accepted that I am a night owl. I am now going to begin working at night and staying up later to give myself more time for my manuscript.
Conclusion
To conclude, I am going to continue researching and compiling information for Chapter 1 before I begin writing. I will then lay out the chapter and map it out. I am shooting for it to be a minimum of 25 pages, 12,500 words. My next writing/book update will be my December blog.
I hope you enjoyed the update!
Thank you for reading!
